Day 18

January 28

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” - Psalm 23:5

Overflowing

This favorite psalm of David describes the life of one who follows the Lord as sheep follow their shepherd. The Lord feeds us and provides for us even when the enemy is present to make us fear by lying to us. The enemy wants us to believe that we need to take care of ourselves, that if we give to others, we won’t have enough to pay our bills or care for our family. The Lord anoints us with oil to make those lies fall off us. As we follow Him, we know all our needs are met. We don’t need to be anxious about the future. He fills our cup so that it overflows onto others around us. We follow a Shepherd who cares for us with abundance. There is always more than enough, so that we can give freely.

Are you freely giving to those around you? Do you let what the Lord blesses you with to overflow onto others? Don’t listen to the lies of the enemy. We have a God who loves us and meets our daily needs. He fed the five thousand, and the disciples gathered more food after everyone ate than there was at the very beginning. There was more after than before they gave. He does the same for us, so we can freely give.

Prayer:

“Lord, thank you for blessing me with many gifts and abilities. Thank you for your physical blessings and your spiritual blessings. Everything I have comes from you. As you have given freely, so I give freely. Thank you for the blessing of giving freely.”
