The God of Abraham

July 30, 2026

“I am the God of Abraham your father." Genesis 26:24

When God introduces himself as the God of Abraham, perhaps more emphatically than any other name, we can clearly recognize that he intends to link himself to us in lasting covenant love relationship.

Here he is--the eternal God--and yet he condescends to be known as the God of Abraham. Surprising and inspiring.

Think of it. God's name is eternal. Unchangeable. When he says, I am the God of Abraham, God is forever linking himself with one of us.

Why?

Because God loves us. He loves you. From the beginning, he is seeking to link himself with you in an eternal love relationship.

The same God who proudly identifies himself as the God of Abraham, wants to also be known as the God of Gladys, the God of George, Lamar, or Ingrid. You can even add your name after the God of …

God wants to be known as the God who loves you.

God of Abraham, I exalt your name. You are my God and I am your child. Your name is in me, and you have absorbed me into your name. I worship you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
