"God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And he said, 'Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14
God knows who he is, and he wants you to know who he is.
God's identity is so closely rooted in his existence that he can say without equivocation, I AM WHO I AM, i.e., I EXIST IN MY EXISTENCE. My name carries with it my very existence. Being who I Am, I will be who I will be.
I AM WHO I AM is the deliberate repetition of the verb to be. God dwells in the eternal, perpetual present and his existence will never change.
You gotta wonder why the apparent redundancy was necessary. Why isn't I AM good enough--why I AM WHO I AM?
Repetition is for emphasis and God wants to emphasize the veracity of his existence to you. He wants to not only convince you that his existence is relevant not only to him but to you. He wants to convince you that your existence is rooted in his.
When you know his name you can say, I know that I am because I know I AM.
I AM WHO I AM, I come to you now in Jesus name. I declare my faith in you--in your presence, in your being. I take you as my I AM--my existence is rooted in you.
