Hi, My Name Is God

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

When you read the name God in the Bible, you may think it's an indirect reference to a generic category of deities, but it's not at all. It's essential to realize that God is a very specific reference to a personal God who is in a league all his own. 

God is the name by which he has revealed himself. Only he deserves the name. Others may try to emulate or replicate or imitate, but even with a small g, any other being does not deserve the name. 

When you use the name, God, he expects you to use it sparingly. Selectively. Honorably. Limitedly. Exclusively. 

When you use the name, God, realize that you have been given the privilege of understanding a portion of who he is. And that revelation is your invitation into a personal love relationship with him. 

God's name is inviting you to respond. It's as if he is saying to you, Hi, my name is God.

Using his name, means that you are already treading on holy ground. 

God, loving Father. I receive your name as an invitation into a love relationship. Your name is holy. Your name gives me exclusive access to you. Your name sets me apart.
