“His name shall be called… Everlasting Father.” Isaiah 9:6
Father is the Name God gave himself.
Telling someone your name is an invitation to deepen your relationship. When God reveals his Name to you, he is inviting you into a deeper love relationship.
When someone smiles as they walk by, you feel a connection. If they smile and wave, they are looking for a response. When they smile, wave, and reach out to shake hands, they are pursuing a connection.
When they smile, wave, reach out to shake hands, and tell you their name, however, they are definitely seeking to establish an ongoing relationship with you.
In the same way, when God tells you his Name, he is not only looking for a response, he is pursuing a genuine ongoing love relationship with you.
There is no more tender, affectionate term God could have revealed to you than Father. Regardless of how loving, kind, or affectionate your earthly father was, your heavenly Father is all that and more.
Everlasting Father lets you know that his love for you is neither conditional, nor circumstantial. His fathering is one you can count on.
God is now looking at you, smiling, extending his hand, and saying, Hi, please call me Father.
Loving Father, I take you as my Father—my everlasting Father. I am your child with all rights and privileges. Thank you for adopting me and thank you for reassuring me that you will never reject or abandon me in Jesus Name.
